Survival and adventure stories have been passed down for millenia to engage the imaginations of the younger generations. They have interwoven lessons in survival, cautionary information, useful knowledge, and the adrenaline to keep young readers transfixed.
This reading program harnesses the power of storytelling to engage learners in the joy of narrative, even those who ‘hate to read’. Storytelling is an essential part of the human experience and binds us together as communities. We will mix in hands-on activities to bring alive events in the stories that the protagonists experience.
Located at the Hub at 206 S Main Street in Homer, this storytelling/nature skill focused class will include transition time (for those coming from Science and other programs), recap of the storyline, story-telling read aloud, activity from the reading (fire-making, beadwork, food/medicine, leatherwork, etc) , and ends with games and chill time.
For students in grades 5-12, Thursdays from 2pm-5:30pm beginning Thursday Sept 17th.
Students attending our Thursday Science program can also attend this reading enrichment program for free.
